Another petition? But I’ve signed so many!

This Petition to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta has been developed by a dedicated member of the Protect Alberta’s Rockies and Headwaters facebook group and is being circulated in our province in an effort to substantiate and provide resounding citizen support for the Eastern Slopes Protection Act; the Official Opposition is set to reintroduce this critical bill in October, 2021.

This petition is unique:

  1. It is old school - physical signatures only

  2. It has been legally & procedurally vetted

  3. It can be submitted in support of subsequent actions that aim to achieve the same objectives

How to collect signatures:

You will need to download and print the petition and you may want to also download and print the fact sheet to provide some talking points when asking for signatures. Ask your friends, family and neighbours to sign and don’t forget to sign it yourself. Every signature counts.

You may also want to collect signatures via door-to-door canvassing, rallies/protests, approved tables in community halls and market places, stations on public property, and in stores who support the Eastern Slopes Protection Act.

Remember to follow the rules:

Because this petition is specifically designed to support a legislative action there are rules:

  1. All signatures must be original

  2. Signatures can only come from Alberta residents

  3. One signature per person

  4. Pages must be one-sided

  5. Names, addresses and signatures must be included in ink

  6. Each page has 20 signature lines. For pages that are short, tally the number you collected and write that number on the bottom left-hand corner.

Send them in by October 10, 2021

Because these are physical signatures they must be amalgamated and presented together. Send your sheets to:

PO Box 22007
POLLARD MEADOWS PO

FAQs

Who is eligible to sign?

Alberta residents of any age may sign the petition. Remember, only one signature per person.

Will this petition help?

We must exhaust every legal means at our disposal to protect the Eastern Slopes and the sacred headwaters they host.

What is the Eastern Slopes Protection Act?

The Eastern Slopes Protection would permanently ban coal mining and exploration activity in category 1 and 2 lands, and halt all mining and exploration activity in category 3 and 4 lands pending the outcome of a regional planning process informed by thorough and meaningful consultation with Albertans.

I thought the Coal issue was closed?

Unfortunately not. While there has been some meaningful progress, including the rejection of the Grassy Mountain project, the Alberta Government has not given any real indication that they are willing to respond to the concerns of citizens and abandon their plan to allow industry to desecrate the Eastern Slopes.
